Antioch was officially founded just prior to the Civil War by a congregation of the Church of Christ. In the late 1800s, Antioch became a popular vacation spot for Chicagoans. During Prohibition, one famous Antioch resident was Al Capone, who owned a summer home on nearby Bluff Lake.

The town has grown at a steady pace through the years, with a population of more than 15,000. Antioch has 15 parks, including a 9-acre educational wetland sanctuary with a boardwalk, walking path, interpretive nature signs, two ponds and the entertainment center.
The Illinois Municipal League is the formal voice for Illinois municipalities. The League was founded in 1913 and has worked continuously for the benefit of municipalities, promoting competence and integrity in administration of municipal government. We offer services to our members that range from traditional to cutting edge, in order to educate and motivate them to remain focused on their passion for the constituencies they represent. Through advocacy at the state and federal level, we work tirelessly to make sure that every voice is heard.

In 1981, the Illinois Municipal League governing board initiated the Illinois Municipal League Risk Management Association (IMLRMA) to stabilize costs and provide liability, property, and workers compensation coverages needed specifically by municipalities.
