Welcome to the Academy for Municipal Excellence!

The Academy was established in 1997 by the Illinois Municipal League and the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois to develop leaders – people with a strong vision for their communities who can effectively and efficiently administer municipal government.

The Academy created the Leadership Enhancement And Development (LEAD) course, and its companion course, The Leadership Forum, to expose municipal officials to the concepts of leadership and to equip them with the tools they need to be successful leaders.
